Humour

Kerfuffle. Filibuster. Gobbledegook. Hemidemisemiquaver.

Some words are just funny.

A study from the University of Alberta found that the funniest words fall

into three categories:
- bodily functions
- animals
- playful language.

In this course, we’re focusing on just that last one. (Sorry.)

When you play with timing, tone and the element of surprise, you can delight your

readers AND make your ideas impossible to forget.

(Why else would we have a course called Gorillas in hotpants?)

In our Humour course, you’ll learn to:

  • break the fourth wall by using asides to bring your reader in on the joke

  • write with hyper-specific, relatable detail that makes people think, “that’s so me”

  • create mental images so vivid and funny that your reader can’t unsee them

  • play with rhythm and pace to put pops of personality into your writing

  • explore the shape and sound of your words to make your writing sing.

And when you do those things, you’ll:

  • make dry topics sparkle: turning even the dullest subject into something readers want to finish

  • build instant rapport: shared humour builds trust faster than a dozen follow-up emails

  • boost retention: when people laugh, they remember — emotion cements memory

  • sound human (and brilliant): humour shows intelligence, empathy, and confidence

  • stand out: in a sea of serious sameness, a little wit is a competitive advantage.

A glass jar of what looks like pickles, with a label that says 'Humour' and has an illustration of an aubergine on it.

It's the difference between this...

Timesheet completion reminder

Please remember to update your timesheets before the end of the week to ensure accurate reporting.

All timesheets must be submitted by EOD Friday.

And this...

Top three things people procrastinate over...

1. booking a doctor’s appointment

2. paying bills

3. tidying the house.

The good news? This reminder isn’t about any of those.

But it is time to do your timesheets

By the end of Friday, please.
